Here Comes Mischief in Cat Form!

Misty Gray Cat is a painting about a kitty that we used to have. A soft, pretty gray-colored shelter kitten we got when my son could hold her upside down in one hand, she grew into a beautiful, although squirrely, cat who could be gentle and loving or as fierce as a tasmanian devil when she visited the veterinarian (which thankfully she rarely needed).

Misty, the painting, is done in pure watercolor on Arches 140 lb. Cold Press Watercolor paper with mostly Winsor-Newton paints. (I have a few other brands, all professional quality, and intermingle them on my palette.) It definitely reflects the personality of this loving tasmanian, split-personality, kooky kitty. Cool colors dominate the composition.

Tree Climber - Painting A Day

Tree Climber once again utilizes one of my favorite little animals, the little kitten. To use a kitten as a subject is completely natural for me, because I just love kitties.

I feel like I just might be getting back into the swing of the painting a day mode. Being sick with a stupid cold just absolutely laid me low, and it completely took any desire I had to paint. It exhausted me so that just the thought of painting made me want to run away. That combined with the fact that it's summer and has really gotten hot here.

A few years ago in my Experimental Painting class, we did some paintings called scrapings. The instructor cautioned us to save the paper towels we scraped the excess paint on. I saved it, and was able to utilize some of it in this painting for my collage materials. The tree in this painting is fabricated out of a drawing of black Sharpie poster paint marker, black permanent Sharpie marker and a Tombow gray pen. The background and sides were painted in a lovely light moonbeam yellow over which the drawing was made and the collage grew on.

This little 8 x 8 inch acrylic on canvas painting is available in my Etsy shop, DreamON. Click here for purchase details.

Painting A Day = Feline X 3

New Math rule is Painting A Day = Feline X 3. Oh, I forgot to mention this is Feline Math. You have to have gone to Feline School to understand.
Having not gone to Feline School, you simply need to enjoy CATS. Ever since I touched my first baby kitten, I have been a cat person. I just love kitties.

I've been painting all day at Studio 1212 working on a couple of new paintings and enjoying the company of other painters. Our opening reception for the Designing Women show on Sunday was well-attended and a great success. Thanks to everyone who attended, and a special thank you to everyone who bought from me.

Everyone loved the Shooz assemblage that we all created on 5 x 7 canvases. My Red High Heels painting is just one of the bunch that have been bolted into a wonderful piece of art which we are raffling off on June 1st at our next show and reception. Every one of us would love to win this, but hopefully we'll be selling lots of raffle tickets, and the lucky winner will be thrilled to add this piece to their collection. (I blogged about this once before a few days ago, and showed the poster with the Shooz).

This painting has been created with many layers of acrylic paints. There are textures below the surface to explore. The photo doesn't do it justice, because once again it was too dark to shoot without the camera's flash going off. The title of this 10 x 14-inch painting is Feline X 3. (THIS PAINTING HAS BEEN SOLD IN MY ETSY SHOP.)
